Never heard of a Perlo before? Well if you follow our perlo recipe, you can definitely keep this one pot meal on the simple and delicious side. Although you can pair your perlo vegetables with pork or shrimp, we combine the flavor of a savory pepper sauce with sausage in this version.
If you love sausage, this tasty recipe mixes rice and veggies making it quick, easy and oh so good! A datil pepper sauce adds the perfect flavor to this one pot mixed dish! This one is perfect for after work when cooking a big meal is impossible. A one pan supper in minutes!
Dat’s Nice Sausage Perlo
Easy One Pan Dinner of Sausage, Rice and Veggies - Great for Cold Nights
Ingredients
- 1 16oz pkg sausage
- 2 tbsp. of olive oil
- 1½ cups onions diced
- ½ cup green pepper chopped
- 1 12 oz. can stewed tomatoes
- 1 8 oz. can tomato sauce
- 2 cups white rice
- 1 to 2 cups Dat’s Nice Original Datil Sauce
- salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Saute sausage in a large non stick pot over medium heat until heated through.
- Drain off excess fat then remove from pot and set aside.
- Add 2 tablespoons of olive oil, salt and pepper, diced onions, and chopped green peppers in the bottom of the same pot and saute until al-dente, then add the sausage back to pot with the cooked veggies.
- Now add Dat’s Nice sauce, tomato sauce and stewed tomatoes to the pot.
- Pour in the rice and bring to a boil.
- Turn heat down and stir for about 1 minute.
- Cover and cook on low heat for about 30-45 minutes until rice is tender.
- DON'T OPEN THE LID for the first 20 minutes
